Website Policy

PURPOSE

The purpose of the website is to support the mission and ministry of Jesus Christ through First Presbyterian Church by providing information and news via the World Wide Web, for members and seekers.

GENERAL POLICY

  • there will be one website known as http://www.corningpresby.org/, which will contain all the information regarding First Presbyterian Church, its programs and its organizations - various organizations and groups within the church may have individual pages within the website
  • the Webmaster, appointed by the Session upon recommendation of the Membership and Outreach Committee, is the primary coordinator of the site, and will work closely with the pastor and office staff
  • the Webmaster, or appointee, is responsible for coordinating the design and content of the website, as well as the accurate and timely update of the church’s online information
  • the Webmaster is not responsible for updating the pages of groups and committees, but insofar as possible, should notify them when updating is needed
  • the presentation of information should be both attractive, provoking curiosity to explore further, and clearly organized to enable people to move easily from page to page
  • no paid advertising is accepted
  • there shall be no copyrighted material displayed on the web site without specific authorization from the originator
  • use links to other sites sparingly - let their owners know when you make a link, and be prepared to remove the link if they would prefer to forego the extra traffic
  • the web site is not to be used for explicit solicitation of donations and any content referring to fund-raising activities must have the approval of Session

STANDARDS

  • every page will have the same identifying "navigation buttons" for consistency and to allow user to move easily from one part of the site to another
  • the name First Presbyterian, Corning, will appear on every page
  • a common background should be used for the first level of each category of information - beyond that, individual groups may consult with the Webmaster and select their own "look"
  • graphics should be minimized on the first level in order to avoid long downloading time

UPDATE OF INFORMATION

  • the website should be updated at least once a week (usually by Friday) with the current Messenger and Sunday bulletin provided by the office
  • Messenger articles could include cross reference to a particular group’s page
  • groups providing "print-ready" pages should do so via e-mail or diskette to the Webmaster
  • individual groups may design and update their own pages in the following manner:
    • meet with Webmaster to develop pages
    • develop complete pages on their own and send to Webmaster
    • if material is time-critical, be sure Webmaster knows

PRIVACY

  • no individual home phone number or address will appear in the website, only the official church number and address will be used, or addresses and numbers of related organizations
  • photos of church events will be on the site - twice a year, a notice will be put in the Sunday bulletin requesting anyone who does not wish to have their photo on the website to contact the Webmaster or church office

DISCLAIMER

  • First Presbyterian Church assumes no responsibility for the content of any other website to which the First Presbyterian Church website has links. A user acknowledges that First Presbyterian Church has no control over and excludes all liability for any material on the World Wide Web which can be accessed by using http://www.corningpresby.org/.

OWNERSHIP

  • The website is the responsibility of the Session through the Membership and Outreach Committee, which shall at least annually report on the website to the Session. The policy shall be posted on the web.
